Purpose: to strengthen families in our community by providing parents with the skills needed to accomplish daily living
Motto "Defining Success for Health and Happiness"
Raising A Well-Balanced Family is a Life Skills parenting workbook developed by Tameka Monroe. The goal of this workbook, which is taught in a series of sessions, is to enhance the overall well-being of any participant, by focusing on life skills, education, career development, money management, relationship building, and parenting skills. Participants will receive information to access resources available to them for additional support. Throughout the course, we host several giveback events, in support of helping our participants get ahead. For instance, back-to-school drives, grocery run, resume writing training, etc.
This program can benefit adults and teenagers.
The current success with this program is based on sessions held where we were able to reunite 28 children with their parents, as those parents began implementing metrics from the program. We hosted 118 participants, in which 53 were not required to attend. In 2013, the Calcasieu Parish Correction Facility inquired about this program being taught to their inmates as a part of their plans to reunify back into the community upon release.
